September's Featured Artist - Lisabelle

Sometimes you can look at a piece of art and appreciate its beauty, without knowing anything about the artist or the story behind the piece.  Then, when the story unfolds, it takes on even more depth and meaning.  That is the case with the two latest paintings I've acquired.

I've been collecting artwork for my office, and found this small piece by an artist who was recently spending some time here in New Mexico.
I immediately fell in love with it for its colors and balance, so I contacted the artist.  She turned out to be a delightfully sweet woman named Lisabelle.  When I went to buy the piece above, I asked if she had any others for sale, and ended up buying this one as well.

As we talked, I came to understand that she had been through a lot in her life, but she was committed to her art, and to doing what she needs to do to keep working, as well as preserving what she's already created.  I admire her spirit, as well as her artistic talent, so I wanted to share her work with you.

Pure Michigan
36x60" Oil on canvas
About this piece, Lisabelle says, "I love the outdoors and being surrounded by nature.  This is pure Michigan.  The Huron River has many tributarites, this spot is in Ann Arbor Michigan near the campus of the University of Michigan.  I was on one of my regular excursions there, with a digital camera.  I spotted this moment and candidly shot the pic, the two figures never even glanced my way. The moment lives on in oil and light."

Lisabelle is a native Californian who relocated to Michigan in 1990.  Mostly self-taught, Lisabelle has primarily painted representational art.  Her portraits are considered to be emotive, and she enjoys expressive landscapes, still life and floral paintings.

Oil on Wood 24x30"
Lisabelle has had opportunities to study with some very accomplished and well known artists of Michigan and Ohio.  Portraiture has been Lisabelle’s mainstay and seems to garner the most recognition.  She is privileged to earn some income and awards from her artworks.  Lisabelle enjoys doing live demonstrations and teaching art through sharing her experience, applied artistic knowledge and her own techniques.

Art by Lisabelle has shown in New Mexico, New York City, New Jersey, California, Michigan and Ohio. To learn more, check out my featured artists page or visit her at www.lisabelle-artist.com.
