The Weekly Palette

Here in Albuquerque, summer is fighting hard to keep its hold on our days.  School has started, but the weather apparently didn't get the memo that Fall is coming.  Our days are still 95 degrees, and the kids and I are sweating messes by the time we finish walking home from school.  But I wouldn't have it any other way.  Though I love Fall, I always feel a twinge of loss as the days grow shorter.  That's why this week's Palette pays homage to summer.

Palette: Pale Pink, Bright Salmon, and Light Taupe

Like the slurp of melted strawberry ice cream at the bottom of the bowl, this palette inspires you to make the most of the moment.  In life, as in design, I believe it's never too late in the season for bright pinks to bring energy to your design, especially when balanced by a lovely neutral such as taupe.

This palette can be darkened, to go a bit more sophisticated (think dining room with plenty of ambient lighting), or lightened to lean towards the whimsical (your office which inspires you and your clients toward creative abandon).

Try this combo:  Cashmere Pink, Soiree, Gilded Linen (all Valspar colors)

Adding touches of wood furniture and matte white accent pieces will give the room more of a sense of history and groundedness, while adding glossy black and/or white touches will modernize the feel.

Happy designing, and please let me know (ie. send pics) if this palette inspired a project!
